Hi All!
We are pleased to welcome you to this week's edition of Undiscovered, a newsletter with exclusive resources and insights expanding from the material found on our main site - becketu.com.
This week we look at a strategy for learning complex skills, a widely upvoted 'Open-Source' Computer Science Degree, the Git Workflow in a visualized chart, and more. Let's jump in:
This is a great video from Dr. Benjamin Keep that explains how focusing our attention on different parts of complex systems helps us understand them better. At just under 4.5 minutes long, this is a quick but informative video that will aid us in how we learn.
This GitHub repository from ForrestKnight contains numerous free resources and courses for those looking to expand the Computer Science knowledge. Covers Basics, Programming, Math, Systems, Theory, Applications, and Unix. Some courses are crossovers from what are already on our site, and this Reddit post already had 1.9k upvotes vouching for it.
Sometimes it is hard to grasp computer science concepts. This is a handy post from Nikki Siapno that shows what the Git Workflow looks like visually. Useful as a reference, and be sure to check out Nikki's website if you are looking to start working in tech.
Grant Sanderson from 3Blue1Brown is interviewed by Lex Fridman in this video, and discusses what the best way is to learn math. The video is just under 3.5 minutes, and will help anyone who is looking for recommendations on learning math from a practical standpoint.
If you're an amusement park fan, you may have noticed roller coaster loops are not circular. This video from Vox explains the history of looped roller coasters, and how their evolution over time has lead to more oval-shaped designs. It's a fun video that shows a real-life application of physics.
We appreciate any feedback you are able to provide here. What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Feel free to reach out to us on Instagram and give us a follow there, tag your friends on our posts, and please forward this newsletter along to anyone else who would enjoy it.
Always wishing you the best,
