#011: What Sam Altman Wishes Someone Told Him, the 'Shazam' of Baby Crying, GPT- 4 and AGI

Hello all!

We are pleased to welcome you to the last 2023 edition of Undiscovered, a newsletter with exclusive resources and insights expanding from the material found on our main site - becketu.com.

It's been a great couple months since our first edition and we are excited to share a few novel finds this week. Let's dive in:

GPT- 4 is not an advancement towards AGI, Brett Hall explains why

There has been a lot of debate as to whether GPT-4 is getting us closer to achieving AGI (or Artificial General Intelligence). Brett Hall is the host of Tokcast, which Listen Notes reports as a top 1% global podcast covering 'optimism, unbounded progress and creative critical thinking using the best known explanations from fundamental physics and philosophy'.

Listen to Brett discuss his thoughts on why it's not an advancement towards AGI and see if you agree.

The apps that will tell you why your baby is crying

These are a couple of apps that caught my attention lately as being very innovative and interesting concepts. They label themselves as the 'Shazam' for identifying why your baby is crying.

The first is called ChatterBaby, which compares the sounds your baby makes to a database of over 1,500 other baby sounds, to determine why they are crying. The other is CryAnalyzer from Product Hunt, which also analyzes baby cries to understand what they mean. One comment says they 'need this for their cat' - weekend projects anyone?

Alternative To

One of the most frustrating things as a creator is being tied down to one piece of software. Sometimes you need to change for a cost reason, other times the project disbands, but it's always worth having a couple options for alternatives when you're in a pinch.

Alternative To is a website that gives you crowdsourced alternatives to apps and software you may use, but are open to changing. From Photoshop, to Maya, and even Netflix, this site will give you great recommendations.

My Favorite Way to Look at How Sites Are Built

I'm always curious how my favorite sites are built. The tool I use to discover how they are made is called Built With. It will tell you the tech stack and every component of how your favorite websites are built.

Whether it's a startup or Fortune 500 company, you can cross check and analyze other sites to make sure you aren't overcomplicating things.

What Sam Altman Wishes Someone Told Him

Open AI and Sam Altman have been all over the news these past couple months, but everything seems to be calming down as of late.

Sam Altman recently made a post titled, 'What I Wish Someone Had Told Me', which gives insightful takes on life and career philosophies. It's a great, short read and will reset you going into 2024. Happy New Years to all!
