#029: Routines of the Best, Tech Interview Handbook, ShackletonHi All! We are pleased to welcome you to this week's edition of Undiscovered, a newsletter with exclusive resources and insights expanding from the material found on our main site - becketu.com. This edition is helped in part by the support of Boot.dev. Be sure to check them out in the P.S. for a special signup offer and more information. Let's jump into this week's finds: Routines of the BestI was recently listening to the Andrew Wilkinson podcast interview with Sam Parr, when I heard Sam mention a website that sounded interesting. It's called routines.club, and it gathers all the daily routines of individuals within tech and general culture. This includes people like Andrew Huberman, Joe Rogan, Tim Ferriss, and even Hailey Bieber! It tells you what their routine optimizes for, as well as a rough schedule of what their typical day looks like. I love how it shows all the references for what it lists, and there's lots of links that branch out on certain topics that may require further exploration. Tech Interview HandbookI'm a sucker for a well-organized handbook, and even more so when the content is extremely valuable. The Tech Interview Handbook is perfect for anyone looking to break into software engineering. From the intro on the website: Tech Interview Handbook goes straight to the point and tells you the minimum you need to know to excel in your technical interviews. Having personally gone through the interviewing process, it was frustrating to have to find resources from everywhere to prepare for my technical interviews. This handbook contains the essence of technical interviewing I gathered over my last job hunt, which allowed me to clinch 9 offers out of 11 top Bay Area companies - Google, Airbnb, Palantir, Dropbox, Lyft, and some startups! Be sure to check it out, and if you're more interested in Front End development, there's a Front End Interview Handbook too. Map of all of RedditI regularly come back to this insanely impressive project built by Github user, Keeping Up With AGIThe endgame for AI in many people's opinion, is to create something called 'AGI' or 'Artificial General Intelligence'. In theory, AGI can perform as well or better than humans on a wide range of cognitive tasks, and it also has the ability to transfer knowledge and skills learned in on domain to another - effectively creating a a type of super computer that may or may not end up like this. Twitter user @archiexzzz recently shared a public Google Doc labeled 'Keeping Up with AGI'. It's a fully comprehensive list of all the latest efforts to reach the feat, and it's incredible this is all shared so openly. Hopefully, this doc allows us to have a world that's less Skynet, and more this. Persuasion and Leadership from ShackletonI had a long drive over the last weekend, and I spent it by listening to the incredible story of Ernest Shackleton. Produced by Ben Wilson for his show, How to Take Over the World, this is one of the most inspiring, thrilling, heartbreaking, and beautiful tales of adventure ever told. For those unfamiliar with the story, Shackleton set sail for Antarctica in August 1914, with the goal of becoming the first explorer to cross the last uncharted continent on foot. In January 1915, his boat, the Endurance, became trapped in ice. This forced his crew of 27 men to embark on a near impossible 850 mile journey to return to civilization and survive the harshest elements on Earth. It's an incredible story on leadership, and there are many lessons of persuasion and effective communication from the podcast. The episode was also largely based on the book, Endurance by Alfred Lansing, for those interested in a more text-based experience. It's truly a story you must read to to believe. P.S. Have you heard of Boot.dev? One of my friends showed me this recently and when I started to demo it, it blew me away! It's a site that teaches you back-end development in a fun, gamified way. It's helped over 70,000 students learn in-demand technologies like Python, SQL, Go, and a bunch of other advanced topics.
