#036: The Right Learning Techniques, Westworld Robots IRL, Fashion Student Math GeniusHi All! We are pleased to welcome you to this week's edition of Undiscovered, a newsletter with exclusive resources and insights expanding from the material found on our main site - becketu.com. This week, we take a look at how to find your optimal learning techniques, real-life Westworld robots, a 17-year old math prodigy studying fashion in China, and more. Let's dive in: Finding the Right Learning TechniquesSometimes, all it takes to learn something is by experimenting how you approach it. One of my favorite new follows on Twitter, @dnbt777 provides an incredible thread below detailing how to become more efficient in finding the 'right' ways of finding your personal learning style:
Stream Cable TV In Your Browser for FreeThis is one of those things that feels like it's too good to be true, until you realize it's legit. There is a research project in the computer-science department at Stanford, called Puffer, that allows you to stream live TV in your browser for free. You must be located in the United States to access the site, but it allows you to watch TV stations affiliated with NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, Fox, and CW networks. Big thank you to @drdevonprice who made us aware of this magical site on Twitter. Full disclosure, this project will use machine learning to analyze your viewing data in an effort to improve video streaming. If you're interested in the project, feel free to check out their Github repo. Real Life Westworld RobotsMeet Clone Robotics, a company that is looking to build 'low-cost, biomimetic, and intelligent androids, trained to perform all the common labor for daily life'. It's an impressive team of 12 scientists and engineers looking to construct something that seems straight out of a science fiction show. The two most impressive aspects of their android, are the Clone Hand and the Clone Torso. At first glance, it seems like most of the parts being built are direct replacements for the actual human body. They have 'textile connective tissue', 'monolithic tendon-muscles', and 'molded, carbon fiber bones'. It's a fascinating company, and we can't wait to follow their developments more closely. The Fastest Growing + Highest Paying Remote JobsIf you're looking for a remote job, now is the time to learn Python and apply for jobs in AI. This post from @levelsio shows it's one of the fastest growing + highest paying remote jobs in 2024. You can verify this on his remote job board, Remote OK. We have tons of resources on our site when it comes to learning Python. If you're looking for the best places to start, feel free to respond to this email and we will personally give you our five favorite resources. Fashion Student Places in National Math Test17-year old fashion student Jiang Ping spends most of her days making clothes. Apparently, she always had a high aptitude for math, and her math teacher gave her advanced math books to study after she aced her first exam at her vocational school. She was encouraged to participate in the global Alibaba Math Competition, where she placed 12th out of 801 finalists. Keep me mind, other participants came from institutions like MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Tsinghua and Peking University. She was one of the roughly 50% of kids in China who didn't even go to a regular high school and ended up at a vocational school. She states that she still like fashion design more than math, but also beautifully stated that she 'saw her favorite, partial differential equations, present everywhere in fashion designs'. She takes the final portion of the Alibaba contest on June 22nd, and we will be cheering for her to do her best! P.S We have an URGENT request to ask of you (especially if you are reading this from a Gmail account). Can you please respond to this email and bring it into your 'primary' inbox?
