#070: The Duolingo Handbook, Vibe Coding with Cursor, Internet is BeautifulHi All! We are pleased to welcome you to this week's edition of Undiscovered, a newsletter with exclusive resources and insights expanding from the material found on our main site - becketu.com. This week, we will take a look at 'Vibe Coding' with Cursor, the Duolingo Handbook, why an 89-year old self-help book is still relevant, and more. Let's dive in: 15 Rules of Vibe Coding with CursorIt's no secret that Cursor has already become one of the most essential tools for coding with AI. Riley Brown may have the tutorial when it comes to how to use it best. He calls his strategy 'Vibe Coding', and he recently provided a 2.5 hour long video on how to get started with four different project types. You can also find the video on YouTube, and if you don't have the 150 minutes to spare, Riley made a cheatsheet covering the '15 Rules of Vibe Coding'. Rick Rubin would be proud. The Duolingo HandbookDuolingo has been making headlines as of late, mostly due to their recent announcement of their beloved owl mascot, Duo, 'passing away'. But Duolingo happened to drop another gem recently. On the Duolingo blog, they released the Duolingo Handbook. "How Duolingo works: 14 years of big learnings in one little handbook." This was released on a few days ago, but contains timeless information and advice. The book centers around five principles:
This handbook is perfect for the aspiring founder, creative, or person interested in learning about how companies work. It's even more relevant to anyone looking to build in the B2C space. Why 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' WorksOne of our most recommended books on persuasion is How to Win Friends and Influence People by David Carnegie. If you haven't read it, stop what you're doing and go start the book. But for those who have read it, you may ask yourself "how do the recommendations mentioned in a book that was released 89 years ago still hold up today?" On Twitter, TracingWoodGrains mentioned something that perfectly describes why that's the case: One reason "How to Win Friends and Influence People" is a genuinely good self-help book is because a lot of its message is "You have to care more about others and honestly understand them and treat their needs as important. No faking." Three Short QuipsOver the course of the week, I'll usually find a few short tweets that directly point to the heart of something significant. Here are a few that have stuck with me from the last week: From one of my top 3 favorite accounts, @anuatluru: Ambitious people often get caught up chasing those who already have what they want, but the irony is that the outlier's path is only a path for one. Every outlier has to carve their own. One that went viral, from @ewyuckugh: the best dating and career advice is making it stupidly easy for cool ppl to find u And lastly, from the "Obsession"-minded runner, @zachpogrob: Every great film is a love story. Every great company is a love story. Internet is BeautifulInternet is Beautiful is a website that curates some of the interesting sites online. What I love about the project, is that all of the websites are personally curated by the creator, Arian Adeli. Each has an interesting flair to it, with a few of the following as the latest featured examples:
The archive section contains all previous entries, and is a useful way to quickly browse through the types of sites typically featured.
