#098: Nano Banana, Wimbledon Principles of Social Media, Alpha School InterviewHi All! We are pleased to welcome you to this week's edition of Undiscovered, a newsletter with exclusive resources and insights expanding from the material found on our main site - becketu.com. This week, we will take a look at a "photoshop killer", the principles of the Wimbledon social media team, an interview with one of the most important people in education, and more. Let's dive in: Nano Banana: The Photoshop KillerNano Banana is a cutting-edge AI image editing model developed by Google DeepMind, recently integrated into the Gemini app under the alias "Gemini 2.5 Flash Image". It enables users to edit and generate images using natural language prompts, focusing on preserving character consistency and identity across complex edits. It essentially labels itself as the "photoshop killer", and the tech circles on Twitter are going crazy experimenting with it. Pietr Levels says, "If you're not building a mini startup with Nano Banana today and launching it tomorrow, you're missing the opportunity of a lifetime". Greg Isenberg recently sat down with Logan Kilpatrick (Lead Product for Google AI Studio) and discussed how to 'actually get the most out of it.' Here's how @techguyver is using Nano Banana with Runway Act 2 for full creative flexibility in making any character they want in videos. And finally, here is some helpful advice on how to improve your Veo3 and generative video prompts to give it exactly what you want. It may not directly translate to Nano Banana, but understanding the principles of optimal prompting is always handy. Wimbledon Principles of Social MediaFascinating thread from Rachel Karten who details what she learned from the Wimbledon social media team, and how they create 6,000 posts in six weeks along with the unique content framework they use. Wimbledon's posting philosophy is "posted is better than perfect" and "emotion over production". They say there is always more more polish and production value they can add to a video, but what matters is if the hook is right and learning how audiences receive it. She also shared a custom graphic on the 'campfire, bonfire, firework' framework they use for the different levels of fans that follow them:
Campfire tier sits at the bottom of this framework and refers to our bread and butter, high-frequency output that tends to be the lowest-lift to create (match highlights, for example). Perhaps perversely, this is the tier that looks after the numbers side of things, as it provides a consistent drumbeat of engagement, mostly with our established audiences that already have an affinity for Wimbledon and/or tennis. Bonfire is a lower-frequency strand, but intended to start reaching beyond our existing communities by applying more intentional creative thought to elevate storylines. This could be a bespoke graphic design to hype up a particular match-up, for example. Firework tier is low volume but high impact, focused on ‘big bang’ moments that can drive significant reach with new audiences but also drive activity off the social platforms themselves, whether that be migrating people to our owned platforms or just getting people talking about Wimbledon. It's essentially a funnel within a funnel, and content that speaks to the different levels of fandom is an incredible way to achieve their impressive engagement numbers over such a short amount of time. All social media teams can learn something from these principles, and you can find Karten's full article here. Thing to Keep an Eye OnOne of the more unhinged accounts I follow on Twitter is Simp for Satoshi. They're actually starting to lean pretty heavily against AI, and instead are focusing on something that has long been overlooked within the VC community: AI inference computers designed to run advanced artificial intelligence models locally. This is exactly what their product, the Truffle-1 is. But why does this matter? These types of computers give you direct control over AI. There's no waiting for the cloud, better privacy, and lower long-term costs. It runs advanced tasks like chatbots or voice AI super fast, right from a desk. For anyone building, tinkering, or just using AI tools, it's plug-and-play power that saves hassle and keeps data local. It wouldn't surprise me if this is the next wave of AI products. On Things Worth Having in LifeTwo recent posts stood out to me as being immensely true and misunderstood by the general populace. An original post said: "LITERALLY ZERO PERCENT OF DATING DISCOURSE MATTERS WHEN YOU FIND THE ONE. ZERO. NADA. ZILCH. NOTHING AT ALL. DON'T YOU GET IT" Simon Sarris responded with: This is true for everything Love, housing, investing, jobs, even small things like furniture or art There are a few lessons to learn from that A couple days later, Naval Ravikant mentions the following: All of the desirable people - the ones that you actually want to work with, spend time with, or date - won’t apply for the job. They have to be identified from afar and hunted down. These stood out to me because they are saying something similar in just slightly different ways. The best things we can pursue in life often don't require 'making a pro/con list' or giving it extra deep thought. Yes, there are times when careful consideration must be exercised for some decisions, but the best things are often no-brainers. This also follows the Derek Sivers philosophy of things worth doing being a 'hell yes or a hell no'. The things worth having won't necessarily be 'selling themselves' in the traditional sense, you must identify quality and actively pursue. Interview with Principal at Alpha SchoolWorking with Alpha School the last seven months has been an incredible journey, and the excitement continues to build each day as expansion occurs. Alpha is without a doubt one of the most important companies in education today, and a large part of that is the vision and leadership of Joe Liemandt. Joe has flown under the radar the last couple decades, but he recently appeared on the Invest Like the Best podcast with Patrick OShaughnessy and discussed Alpha, the education system, and how to leverage modern tools to efficiently give students exceptional outcomes while providing them life skills. David Perell has spent a good amount of time with Joe and also outlined many great lessons learnt along the way. Highly recommend to anyone looking to peer into what one system in the future of education will look like. P.S Can you please respond to this email and bring it into your 'primary' inbox?
