#085: Latest On Nuclear Energy, GEO Taking Over from SEO, Compound Early in the Morning

Hi All!

We are pleased to welcome you to this week's edition of Undiscovered, a newsletter with exclusive resources and insights expanding from the material found on our main site - becketu.com.

This week, we will take a look at some of the latest news in the nuclear energy industry, how SEO is being replaced, why you should do the most daunting challenge as soon as you wake up, and more.

Let's dive in:

Aalo and Latest Nuclear Energy News

Four executive orders were recently signed by President Trump intending to restore the United States as one of the world leaders in nuclear electricity production. Nuclear influencer Isabelle Boemeke wrote a megathread breaking down the news, discussing the promising aspects of the executive orders as well as the parts that may backfire. It's a step in the right direction for the entire nuclear industry, potentially opening the door for exciting startups in the space.

One of those startups is Austin-based Aalo. In short, Aalo has figured out how to shrink nuclear power plants into components that can be quickly built, transported, and interconnected while maintaining low radioactive risk. Investor Julian Shapiro wrote another thread, breaking down the generational opportunity for Aalo and other companies in the nuclear space. The demand for this is largely driven by energy consumption needs for data centers - critical for retaining relevancy in the global AI race.

Beautiful Apps Spotted in Production

Spotted in Production is a cheeky, niche favorite account of mine always covering the coolest new app releases. This tweet features some of their recent favorites with the best designs. Here are a few that stood out to me:

Any Distance - Any Distance goes so unnecessarily hard for a fitness tracker and remains head and shoulders above its peers even after a year of being in passive maintenance mode. Some apps just get it right the first time.

one year - You didn't know you needed a year countdown visualizer until Sam drew 365 little plants by hand for you. If you're making apps, I encourage you to consider features that you can hand draw hundreds of little things for. We need more of this.

[untitled] - Also feel guilty about posting this guy again but I would literally be lying to your face if it wasn't included. Do you want me to do that? Next thread can be 8 truths and a lie if you want.

Retro - We recently learned that Retro hit #1 in the Social App rankings in Taiwan 👏 which begs the question: is Retro's App Store ranking a leading indicator of a country's quality of life? It very well could be. No notes here either. Stupid good feel good app.

Do It First Thing When You Wake Up

Justin Skycak from Math Academy responded to one user who stated 'i'm back at doing MA again, i've realized the only possible way to squeeze in math is to wake up 1 hour earlier and try to do 25-50xp so now we get up at 5am'.

It's common to fall victim to procrastination, especially when it comes to things we know we should do but find ways not to do them. That's why I love Skycak's response to this student, detailing simple yet powerful reasons for attacking the day with whatever you need to get done first:

If you struggle to train consistently, then the #1 remedy is to do it immediately after waking up. Several reasons why:

– It shields you from those unexpected events that demolish whatever schedule you had planned for the day.
– There’s no time to even consider skipping the training session. By the time you shake off the initial grogginess and become fully conscious of what you’re doing, you’ve already started training.
– There’s a clear habit trigger and reward: waking up means it’s time to train, and after you train you get your shower, meal, whatever, and you get to feel good about yourself all day. And if you skip the training, then there’s the punishment of feeling bad about yourself all day. Basically operant conditioning.

GEO is Taking Over

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, has long been one of the pillars of online marketing. It had been deemed essential because lots of organic traffic would arrive on your site if it was ranked highly enough, due to factors like keywords, links, and other technical improvements. However, the age of AI has shifted the importance of SEO in favor of something new - Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO.

With AI tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Perplexity becoming increasingly popular, search behavior is shifting from clicking links to getting direct answers from generative AI engines. A16Z recently shared an insightful tweet stating that its not just about gaming the algorithm now, its about being cited by it. Zach Cohen and Seema Amble wrote the comprehensive article on GEO that all business owners should check out to stay on top of the latest best marketing practices.

Ode to Nerdwriter

I've apparently been living under a rock the last 10 years and just discovered the Nerdwriter YouTube channel by accident. I was visiting one of my other favorite channels, Like Stories of Old, when I saw them reference a video titled "Helm's Deep: How to Film an Epic Battle". Being the LoTR nerd that I am, I decided to go and see what this other channel was all about.

The Helm's Deep video was incredible. It made me think about the anatomy of not only a great battle, but a great story. I started a mini binge of Nerdwriter's content where I watched him breakdown why the Prisoner of Azkaban was the best Harry Potter film, along with an analysis of Edward Hopper's Nighthawks - one of my favorite paintings.

What I immediately loved about Nerdwriter's content is that a majority of the videos are under 10 minutes long. This length is a remnant of a different time on YouTube, before most video essayists decided to max their average view duration and milk topics with superfluous details. I say that but, at the same time, I would have watched an hour-long video of Nerdwriter breaking down any of the topics from the videos I watched.
