Hi everyone!
We are pleased to welcome you to this week's edition of Undiscovered, a newsletter with exclusive resources and insights expanding from the material found on our main site - becketu.com.
This edition is helped in part by the support of Boot.dev. Be sure to check them out in the P.S. for a special signup offer and more information. Let's jump into this week's finds:
If you are familiar with Khan Academy, you will love ShowMe. It labels itself as an 'EdTech community' that has tons of really helpful tutorials. Subjects range from math, science, language, music, art, and more.
Maybe you need a refresher on how to add fractions? It's possible you're curious about how to draw hands? This is one website where it is easy to follow your curiosity with videos that are simple, informative, and to the point.
If you're like me, you listen to a lot of podcasts. One of the things that has always frustrated me, however, is that guests will talk about their favorite books and I have no way of going back to track what they recommend. I finally found the perfect solution to this: kevinrooke.com/books.
On this website you'll find book recommendations from people like Jeff Bezos, Mark Cuban, Elon Musk, Naval Ravikant, and more. What I love about it is that the site gives context for why the person recommends those specific books. Feel free to check it out along with Kevin's other website Bookmarked.club.
Finding the right job is hard. Knowing how to stand out from the crowd when applying for the job itself is even more difficult. In the following tweet, Gumroad CEO Sahil Lavingia shares his thoughts on how he would apply for a position at his own company. It's a very cool insight that is rarely shared in this kind of public format.
(this advice may be for designers, but you can apply the same principles to any position).

The new year brings new challenges, opportunities, and mindsets for us to adopt. One of my favorite small pieces of advice comes from Tim Ferris on David Perell's 'How I Write Podcast'.
In the tweet below, it falls under Point #5: To maintain consistency, lower the bar for what it looks like to show up.
If you're a writer, it could mean hammering out two pages instead of trying to write an entire chapter. If you're trying to get into fitness, it could mean taking a daily walk for 15 minutes instead of committing to an hour at the gym. There are lots of ways to use this mindset, but it is one I highly encourage us all to consider.

This is a quick, fun tip on how to calculate percentages from one of my favorite Twitter accounts, World of Engineering. May come in handy if you ever find yourself in a situation that requires mental math!

P.S. Have you heard of Boot.dev? One of my friends showed me this recently and it blew me away! It's a site that teaches you back-end development in a fun, gamified way. It's helped over 70,000 students learn in-demand technologies like Python, SQL, Go, and a bunch of other advanced topics.
If you're interested in a membership, use the code BECKET at checkout for 25% off your first payment (either first month or yearly depending on the plan you like).
We appreciate any feedback you are able to provide here. What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Feel free to reach out to us on Instagram and give us a follow there, tag your friends on our posts, and please forward this newsletter along to anyone else who would enjoy it.
Always wishing you the best,
